Dylan Laurenzo, 18, of Johnston, and Taylor Reilly, 18, of Coventry, have died of injuries sustained in Tuesday’s crash and fire at the Sunoco gas station in Johnston.

Laurenzo, who celebrated his 18th birthday last Friday, was a senior at Johnston High School. He was a member of the 2015 confirmation class at St. Philip Church in Greenville. Dennis Sousa, Director of religious education said, “Dylan was a great boy who went through two years of confirmation classes. He was a caring and respectful child and had a good heart.” Reilly graduated from Coventry High School in 2016 and was a student at URI.

According to the state police, Andrea D’Agostino, 87, was driving on Rt. 6 West on Tuesday around 4 p.m. when she attempted a left turn onto Bishop Hill Road. Laurenzo was a passenger in the front seat of a car driven by Zachery Albanese, 19, also of Johnston, which was traveling east on Rt. 6 and had just entered the intersection. The cars crashed, and Albanese’s car veered right and entered the Sunoco gas station parking lot, where it struck a Honda SUV parked in front of a gas pump. The unoccupied SUV hit the gas pump and was immediately engulfed in flames.

Reilly was pronounced dead at Rhode Island Hospital. At press time, Albanese remained in critical condition at Rhode Island Hospital. D’Agostino was transported to Miriam Hospital and later released.

The accident remains under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call the state police at 401-444-1000.
