2016 was a stellar year for Barrington schools

Plenty of awards and accolades for local students, teachers

Barrington school officials and students spent a fair amount of time collecting blue ribbons, gold medals and other various awards in 2016. Following is a list of some of the achievements, awards and accomplishments:

• Barrington High School named a National Blue Ribbon School

• US News and World Report awards Barrington High School a gold medal and ranks the school number 400 out of nearly 20,000 schools nationwide

• Barrington High Schools boasts 13 Presidential Scholars, more than any other school in the state

• The high school also boasts 12 National Merit Scholarship semifinalists

• Both the high school and middle school Science Olympiad teams win state titles and advance to nationals in Wisconsin

• Barrington High School students win top honors at the state science and engineering fair, including "Best in Fair" awards

• Two robotics teams from Barrington High School earn invitations to the FIRST Tech Challenge State Championship

• A Barrington High School junior is awarded a National Scholastic Art Competition Silver Key

• Barrington Middle School science teacher Anthony Borgueta receives the prestigious Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching

• The Partnership for 21st Century Learning designates Barrington Public Schools as an exemplar district for 2016-2017

• Barrington High School students earn numerous victories at the RI Debate State Championship

• Barrington High School Jazz Ensemble wins its second straight title at the Berklee High School Jazz Festival

• A team of students from Barrington High School wins the state LifeSmarts Consumer Championship and competes in nationals

• A Hampden Meadows School student reaches finals of state geography bee

• For the second straight year, a team of Barrington High School students win the URI Calculus Bowl

• Four of Barrington's six public schools are included on RIDE's Commended Schools list; just 22 schools across the state made the list
