4th grade entrepreneurs sell bracelets to help animals

The Cranston Herald ·

Sophia Deal, Mia Santomassio, Kyleigh Davis and Allison Needham, fourth-grade students at Glen Hills Elementary School, put their crafting skills to work to help the Cranston Animal Shelter.

"About a month ago we started talking about this for the first time," said Santomassio. "We were making bracelets with our friends."

The group thought it would be fun to sell their bracelets to their classmates, but did not get clearance to do that at school, so the four brainstormed other ways to promote their homemade wares instead.

"We asked Mr. DeCristofaro if we could sell our crafts at the Holiday Shoppe and donate the money to an animal shelter and he said 'yes,'" said Davis. Principal DeCristofaro allowed the girls to set up shop within the Holiday Shoppe. To prepare, they increased their inventory, developed a catchy name and a price sheet. In addition to the homemade bracelets, they made necklaces, rings, key chains and duct-tape pouches.

Deal’s parents offered to match the sales the girls made, and a total of $100 will be donated to the Cranston Animal Shelter.

Pet owners and pet lovers, the girls love that they are helping out animals in need this holiday season. They are excited to surprise the Cranston shelter with their donation later this month.
