Hendricken may have won the state swim championship on Saturday, but it was the second place Barrington Eagles who reeled off a number of very impressive performances, setting two state records in the process.

Barrington girls three-peat as state champs.

The Eagles were led by Harry Homans and Ethan O'Connor, who each won two events and also swam legs for two of Barrington's state championship relay teams.

"Our boys stole the show, winning 6 out of 11 events and setting 2 state records," said Barrington swim coach Sandy Gorham. "Barrington now holds the state records for all 3 relays — 200 medley relay, 200 free relay and the 400 freestyle relay."

Barrington junior captain Ben Noonan was very pleased with his team's performance; the Eagles scored 301 points, while Hendricken finished with 355.

"We all worked really hard this season and it was nice to see it pay off in the end. It was also nice to see our relays break the 200 medley and 400 free relays," he said.

The Eagles defeated Hendricken during the regular season — it was the first time in 17 years the Hawks lost a regular season meet.

During the state meet, Barrington's Homans won the 200-yard individual medley and the 500-yard freestyle. It was Homans's second straight state title in the 500 free.

O'Connor won the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-free. O'Connor is a sophomore and Homans is a junior.

Barrington also had two state championship relay teams.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Homans, Ben Noonan, Aidan Lane and Ethan O'Connor won and set a state record in the process. The local boys clocked a 1:36.36, breaking a record time of 1:37.30 set a year earlier by Barrington.

The Eagles' 400-yard freestyle relay team of Ben Vesey, Aidan Lane, O'Connor and Homans also clocked a state record time — the local swimmers finished with a time of 3:14.57.
