Bristol Police: Gun shots, domestic disputes, juvenile hijinks

The Bristol Police Department responded to the following calls between Jan. 16 and Jan. 22:

Monday, Jan. 16

A resident on North Lane reported that a neighbor’s garage door had been open for five days and no one had been seen at the home. Police investigated, finding no problems. It was just an oversight on the part of the owners.

Police responded to calls of a woman with a facial injury at the Bristol Sports Club on Wood Street. She was brought to Rhode Island Hospital. There were no details on the extent of the injury.

Tuesday, Jan. 17

A raccoon was reportedly walking down Wendy Drive just before 10 a.m. before running off into the woods. A nocturnal animal wandering around during the day is sometimes a sign of rabies.

Wednesday, Jan. 18

Police responded to a nuisance complaint at the East Bay Food Pantry at Wood and Franklin streets at 9:30 a.m. A staff member and a client were reportedly engaged in a verbal argument. Peace was soon restored.

Officers responded to suspicious activity complaints at Bristol Town Beach around 8:30 p.m. One resident was brought to Newport Hospital with unspecified injuries.

Thursday, Jan. 19

A car ran into a parked vehicle in the Dunkin’ Donuts parking lot on Gooding Avenue at 10 a.m. The driver was injured but was not brought to the hospital.

Two juveniles were breaking glass bottles in the road at Magnolia and Roma streets around 2:30 p.m. Officers made the juveniles clean up the mess.

A resident on Ambrose Street called police just after 3 p.m. after an unknown man in a blue coat knocked on the front door, then left when there was no answer. There was nothing suspicious. The man was working with Cox Communications knocking on doors to speak with customers.

A resident on Thompson Avenue was conducting an open burn in the yard around 3:30 p.m. The homeowner was advised to extinguish the fire.

Friday, Jan. 20

Police responded to a domestic disturbance on Bradford Street at 11:30 a.m. after a resident called 911 then hung up. Officers filed a report, but no arrest was made.

Another report of a domestic disturbance came in from Oliver Street at 1:30 p.m. It reportedly turned out to be just a verbal dispute.

Police responded to harassment complaints at Guiteras School on Washington Street around 3:30 p.m. There was no rest made, and no details are released when juveniles are involved.

A resident complained of furniture on the sidewalk on Wood Street, a violation of town ordinances. Officers spoke with the offending resident.

Another domestic dispute, this time on Burton Street around 4:30 p.m., turned out to be just a parent disciplining a child.

Two men were reportedly hanging out on the steps of Guiteras School at 8:30 p.m. They were dispersed.

A man wearing a black North Face jacket was reportedly ill at the corner of State and Thames streets. By the time officers arrived, he had been picked up by an Uber driver.

Saturday, Jan. 21

Police checked on a car in the parking lot of the Walgreens on Metacom Avenue just after midnight. There was no problem; the driver had pulled over to use a cell phone.

A dog was reportedly barking for several hours on Milford Street by 10 a.m. Police advised the owner.

A resident on Columban Drive complained of harassment through social media. Police filed a report.

A resident on Sunnyside Avenue complained of loud music from a neighbor’s home just after 10 p.m. The resident was advised to turn the music down.

Sunday, Jan. 22

A woman called 911 from the Almeida Court Apartments off Bayview Avenue just before 2 a.m. because she was intoxicated and didn’t feel safe walking to her car. A friend brought her home.

A Domino’s Pizza driver was reportedly making a delivery on Gooding Avenue at 4:30 a.m. He was advised of the town ordinance prohibiting deliveries during restricted hours.

Multiple calls of loud bangs in the area of Kickemuit Avenue came in around 7:30 a.m. The bangs were gunshots from hunters on the other side of the Kickemuit River in Warren.
