Festival Ballet Providence heralds the holiday season and celebrates its 35th season with its annual favorite, “The Nutcracker.” Four “must-see” performances will take place in the opulent Providence Performing Arts Center December 14-16: Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 2 and 7 p.m. and Sunday at 1:30. Ticket sales are brisk for this magical production by the state’s premiere ballet company that brings an audience of over 12,000 to downtown Providence.
Archie, FBP’s Yorkshire terrier mascot, will be making his 114th appearance in “The Nutcracker,” each year to the delight of everyone in the audience. This darling dog knows the choreography by heart, and he does a great job of prancing from one side of the stage to the other with the utmost grace.
The role of Clara will be performed for the second year by Jane Schiavone from Providence. Artistic Director Djuric said, “Jane has taken beautifully to playing Clara, and this year and she is dancing with great confidence and grace. We are thrilled with her.”
Performances take place at the Providence Performing Arts Center, 220 Weybosset St., Providence. Tickets priced from $23 to $85 are available by contacting the PPAC Box Office at 4421-ARTS (2787) or by visiting www.ppacri.com. Group discounts are available by calling PPAC at 421-2997.
