Local residents pull together for fire victims
Jen Cowart

When Warwick resident Heather Wirtz heard the news that a fire had taken the home and all of the possessions of one of her best friends, she knew she had to help. The Orlando family of Coventry, MJ, Nick and young daughter Cece, were victim to a fire early in the morning on February 27, but were all able to escape unharmed. Wirtz quickly set up a GoFundMe fundraising page to benefit the family, and put out an all-call to as many friends and family members as possible. Within just a couple of hours, over $5,000 had come in and the donations are still coming. The goal is to raise at least $50,000 to help the family get back on their feet as they try to find temporary housing and start replacing those things that can be replaced, such as clothing and other every day needs. Anyone wishing to make a donation can visit the fundraising page: http://www.gofundme.com/76bzq4 or contact Wirtz at heatherw@macaronikid.com. Wirtz is accepting not only monetary donations but also donations of gift cards to local businesses.
