Witnesses reported hearing three gunshots at about 5:30 p.m. They also reported seeing a man slumped over near the intersection of Maple Avenue and Kirby Street.

The area where the shooting occurred was a short walk from Holy Angels Church.

On Thursday night, yellow caution tape and police cruisers blocked the entrance to Kirby Street from Maple Avenue, and Barrington police detectives were spotted going in and out of a multi-family home that stands just west of Holy Angels Church.

Barrington Police Sgt. Wes McCoy spoke with members of the media at about 7:20 p.m. and said there was one victim in the shooting, a white male. Sgt. McCoy said neighbors have no reason to be concerned following the shooting.

Some residents stood outside their homes on Thursday night, seeking out information. One Bristol man said his parents lived nearby and had heard the sounds of gunshots. He said they were pretty upset about the situation.

Another family that lived on Kirby Street was trying to get to their home, but was unable to pull down that road. They said they had been away when the shooting occurred. They planned to park at the nearby walk-in medical clinic and then walk along the bike path to get to their home.

Many people were curious about what led to the shooting. According to WPRI.com, the suspect and the victim had never met, but knew each other through another acquaintance.
