Taking note

Robertson School third graders had the school whistling Wednesday as they learned how to play “Hot Cross Buns” on their recorders. The students are introduced to the recorder at third grade and take advanced training in fourth through sixth grade. Schools provide the recorders that parents can buy for $4, explained instructor Brian Flynn. Flynn separated the third graders into three teams, assigning a student as a coach for each team. The students progressed quickly, although the sounds emanating from the auditorium had a way to go before being classified as music.
