Warwick man charged with possession, transfer of child pornography

A Warwick man is being charged with the possession and transfer of child pornography as a result of an ongoing investigation, Rhode Island State Police Col. Steven O’Donnell announced Friday.

Ryan Godin, 21, of 30 Fern St., was arraigned in Third Division Court and released on $20,000 personal recognizance, contingent on conditions restricting his contact with children and use of the Internet. A pre-trial conference is set for June 22.

State police say the investigation into the online trading of child pornography, conducted by the Computer Crimes Unit and Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, revealed the Internet connection at Godin’s Fern Street address “was used to download and transfer images of alleged child pornography.”

A search warrant was subsequently executed at the address, and residents were interviewed. State police say “several pieces of digital media were forensically analyzed” and a laptop and cellular phone were seized, and Godin “is alleged to be the owner of the digital media containing the child pornography.”

The ICAC Task Force is comprised of members of the Computer Crimes Unit, detectives from the Coventry, Warwick, Pawtucket, Jamestown, Woonsocket, North Kingstown, Portsmouth and Bristol police departments, as well as special agents from Homeland Security Investigations and United States Postal Inspection Services.
