Warwick man dies in one-vehicle collision

A Warwick man was killed in a single car accident Tuesday night around 11:45. Warwick Police and Fire Departments responded to a car and tree accident in the area of 1785 West Shore Road.

The operator, identified as Timothy Torres, 19, of Warwick, was trapped in the vehicle after the initial collision. The subject had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Warwick Fire Department but Torres was pronounced dead at the scene.

The initial investigation has determined that the vehicle was traveling west on West Shore Road when it left the roadway, mounted the curb and struck a tree on the north side of the road.

The Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the collision but so far is centering on speed, alcohol and road conditions as possible factors. They did say he was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

Investigators are continuing their investigation with the assistance of the Rhode Island Office of the Medical Examiner.

“Quite frankly, we are waiting for the medical examiner’s report before we put out anything else as a cause,” said Major Raymond Gallucci.
