YOU WON’T GUESS WHAT’S UNDER THE HOOD: Dean Martin – he’s the original, you know? – and Kenny Pichette look under the hood of Pichette’s 1950 Ford and its like-new 327 Chevy engine. Dean, who worked on the cruise nights with Oliver, owns a 1949 Ford.

NOT OLD ENOUGH YET: Hunter Hennessey is delighted to be handed the keys to his grandfather’s 2007 Pontiac Solstice GXP that has a 436 Corvette engine under the hood, but it won’t be another six years before he can get a license. Thomas Theroux, the grandfather, said he’d let Hunter drive it when the time comes. The car was in the “winner’s circle” last week for having been selected several weeks before.

Tuesday cruise nights are back and in full swing at Oakland Beach thanks to the Greater Warwick Lions Club, but it really wasn’t until last Tuesday that the good weather cooperated. The Tuesday cruise nights have been a part of the summer beach scene since being started by the late Kevin Oliver and a group of dedicated friends in 2002. It has evolved since then but remains a great place for those who love cars, the breeze off Greenwich Bay and just getting out and talking with people.
