An Interview with Michael Cahill of BCX Energy

Find out how what's happening with Solar power on the East Side

The Bay Magazine ·

Tell us about the work BCX Energy is doing on the East Side.
We recently finished an 80 panel system on the roof a modern institutional building on Angell Street. We also installed a small system (six panels) on my house on Gano. Our electric bill at the house last month was $27.

What are the benefits of going solar?
To save money. To be a part of the solution (to climate change, to reliance on big oil). To keep this generation of kids off your back (laughs), because you know one day they're going to come home from school and ask, "So mom and dad, what are we doing to save the world?"

How long does the installation process take?
From a couple days to one week.

What do your customers say about BCX Energy?
We've got a 5 out of 5 stars review on Facebook. All of our customer feedback has been super positive. A few recent written testimonials include: “Both my wife and I are very happy. We would highly recommend BCX Energy for anyone considering solar for their home.” “Their workmanship and work ethics were exemplary.” “Throughout the installation and commissioning, their installers were highly qualified to handle the whole project. I would highly recommend BCX Energy.”

Tell us about your team.
The head of our solar business unit is Keith Boivin. I tell people even if he wasn't my business partner I’d recommend him if you are considering solar. He's going to be the strongest link in your value chain. He's an electrical engineer that worked his way through school as an electrician’s apprentice. His family is well networked in the trades, including electrical contracting. He's a former “big company” guy. Having lived in that world, he knows the importance of planning, finances and incentives. So, he's got the 30,000-foot view, though it's not uncommon to see him with a pair of wire cutters in has hands helping on an install.
