Barnes first-graders celebrate writing, tea time

Johnston Sun Rise ·

Ms. Jennifer Ramage’s students in her first-grade class hosted their families for a celebration of learning after the children each wrote a story, which involved them going through the entire writing process.

Each child created his or her own character and planned a story for their character. The plot was entirely their creation, and the children then published their works in a pre -fabricated book. Students even wrote about the author on the back cover. Some of the children’s characters were mermaids, puppies, dragons and dinosaurs to name a few.

The children then dressed as their character in costumes that they helped plan, design, and make. They read their story to the parents using a microphone in the cafeteria, then they were available for book signing in the classroom following the performance.

Parents were invited to the classroom to watch a PowerPoint presentation of memories from the student’s year in first grade. The event was then capped off with tea and juice.
