Barnes students show Halloween spirit

Johnston Sun Rise ·

At Sarah Dyer Barnes Elementary School, Halloween on Monday gave all the staff and students a chance to show their school spirit, dressing in orange and black for the day. In kindergarten, however, the students and their teachers created classroom costumes, dressing as a box of crayons. Each table was assigned a color, addressing each color of the rainbow. To top off the special day, winners were announced for the school's Candy Corn Count, an estimation contest for all grades, kindergarten through grade five. One winner was chosen from grades kindergarten through two and one winner was chosen from grades three through five. In second grade, Kyleeh Iricanny guessed that there were 65 candy corn pieces in the smaller container, coming within just two of the actual number, 67. In grade five, Ryan Audino guessed that there were 714 in the larger container, just one off from the actual number of 713. For coming the closest, each was given a special Halloween prize to take home. (Text and photos by Jen Cowart)
