The Barrington Majors All Star team defeated Newport 7-0 in an elimination bracket game on Thursday afternoon, July 6.

Newport threatened to score in each of the first three innings, but solid pitching from Matt Raffa and strong defense prevented the visiting team from plating any runs. Barrington threw a runner out at home plate in the second inning and Matt Davis turned a double play from third base to first base in the third inning to prevent any runs for Newport.

In the bottom of the third inning Barrington's offense struck for three runs. Dean Sequeira led off the inning with a single, Griffin Crain and JT Celico also reached base, and Andrew Lapointe had a big 2-out hit.

In the bottom of the fifth inning Barrington was able to score four more runs on base hits from Crain, Celico, Ben Ptaszek, a double by Aidan Aggarwal, and RBIs from Gabe Tanous and Raffa.

Crain pitched two scoreless innings to combine with Matt Raffa's four scoreless innings for the shutout.

Barrington plays Portsmouth at Portsmouth Saturday.
