Barrington Middle School roof leaks, no class Wednesday

Barrington Middle School students will have an extra day off from classes this week.

While a nor'easter forced the closure of all schools across Barrington on Tuesday, March 14, a series of roof leaks at the middle school will result in canceled classes on Wednesday also.

Barrington Superintendent of Schools Michael Messore shared that information with parents of middle school students on Tuesday evening. Apparently heavy snow and rain from the storm exposed leaks in the middle school roof above the second floor classrooms, in the library and the boys' locker room.

Dr. Andy Anderson, the middle school principal, also sent a message to the BMS community. It stated, in part, "Our custodial staff, as well as a professional remediation company, will be working through the evening and daytime tomorrow to contain the leaks and re-mediate. We will keep you posted and informed of the status of the clean up."

During the November election, Barrington residents approved a $68.4 million bond to build a new middle school. A key meeting is set for Thursday night, March 16, where voters will be asked to approve a measure to exceed the 4 percent tax levy cap. Officials have said that it is necessary to exceed the cap in order to afford debt service payments on the bond and increases to the school and municipal operating budgets.

The Thursday night meeting is at the high school auditorium at 7 p.m.
