Barrington police are searching for a man who allegedly approached a middle school student Wednesday morning, Dec. 14, in the area of Lewis Street and Chachapacassett.

The information was shared with parents of Barrington students on Thursday afternoon. The email from Barrington Schools Superintendent Michael Messore stated:

"Please be advised that the Barrington Police informed us today, that they are seeking information regarding a suspicious person who allegedly spoke to one of our Middle School students in the Lewis Street and Chachapacassett area. The police are seeking to question an older male driving a silver automobile. If you see a vehicle matching this description, following a bus or parked near a bus stop please contact the Barrington Police at 437-3937."

Barrington Police Chief John LaCross said that the man said nothing threatening to the female middle school student. The girl reportedly told her mother that she was reading a book when the man pulled his car up next to her, rolled down his window and said he was glad to see her reading a book and not staring at her cell phone. He reportedly ended the short meeting by saying "God bless you."

Chief LaCross said the girl did the right thing notifying officials about the incident. He said police are hoping to speak to the man and ask him some questions.
