On Friday, Jan. 20, a Highland Avenue resident contacted police after she received a bill from Kohl's department store for $989. The woman said the charges had been made using a Kohl's store credit card that the woman had never applied for. It was not clear what had been purchased using the card.

On Saturday, Jan. 21, a Joyce Street resident received a bill from Best Buy for $4,631 for an account that had been opened in her name. The woman said she did not open the account; she added that the name on the account was hers, but had been misspelled.

Also last week, a Joann Drive resident and her mother stopped by the station to report a case of identity theft. The resident told police she was trying to file a late tax return when she was notified that someone had already used her personal information to file a return.
