Body recovered from Teddy’s Beach in Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH — A body was recovered from Teddy’s Beach in Island Park Wednesday morning, Fire Chief Michael Cranson confirmed.

“I got notified this morning at 6:15 (a.m.). Our guys were called down there,” Chief Cranson said. “We confirmed the body was deceased. It was beyond resuscitation.”

Chief Cranson said he had no further information about the incident.

Portsmouth Police have told us that the R.I. Department of Environmental Management is handling the case. We've reached out to DEM and will update this story as we learn more.

WPRI has reported that the deceased was a male who was wearing a wet/dry suit.

Teddy’s Beach is located off Park Avenue and directly abuts the old Stone Bridge.
