'Bolts sweep Pats for fifth straight win

The Cranston East girls’ tennis team rattled off its fifth straight victory to end the season on Thursday afternoon at Park View, rolling past one-win Pilgrim, 7-0, to conclude its season slate with an 11-5 record.

Serena Bobola continued her dominance in East’s No. 1 singles spot, gliding to a straight-sets, 6-1, 6-2 win over Pilgrim’s Vanessa Escamilla.

That would unveil a common theme, as the ’Bolts wouldn’t drop a set on the day.

A pair of sophomores, Lily Russell and Lily Frappier, would each go on to drop just three games, as well, en route to easy wins in their No. 2 and No. 3 singles matches, respectively.

Junior Hannah Joyce eased past her opponent, Katie Kosky, at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-1 to secure the match victory for the ’Bolts.

However, they didn’t let up there.

They continued to earn points in doubles, with the three duos combining to outscore their adversaries, 36-8.

Caroline Nagy and Carmen Zhu took care of business in No. 1 doubles, 6-2, 6-0 before the No. 2 doubles team of Trinity Potter and Sophia Ebers won its match 6-1, 6-1.

The No. 3 pairing of Thalia Martinez and Katerina Rodriguez completed the sweep for East with a 6-1, 6-3 victory.

The win allowed East to lock up the No. 3 seed out of Division III-A. It was set to open its playoff run in the quarterfinals against the No. 2 seed out of Division III-B, North Providence, on Tuesday, but results were unavailable at press time.
