A Bristol man is being held at the ACI after allegedly raping a woman at gunpoint in Bristol last week.

Raymond O. Correia, 33, of 418 Metacom Ave., Bristol, was charged with first degree sexual assault, use of a firearm while committing a crime of violence, first degree robbery, simple assault, assault with intent to commit a felony, possession of a firearm by a convict and procurement of sexual conduct for a fee. He is being held without bail pending trial.

Police received a call on Sunday, Oct. 16 at about 11:15 p.m. from a woman reporting she had been assaulted in Bristol. The woman acknowledged having posted an ad for sex on the personals website backpage.com, and traveled to Bristol to meet Mr. Correia at a home on Hopeworth Avenue. While the pair was engaged in a sex act, Mr. Correia pulled out a black handgun and held it to her head, while demanding more sexual contact, the victim told police.

After several minutes, the woman was able to escape and run to a waiting car, where she called police. The woman was not harmed physically, according to police reports.

Bristol Police obtained a search warrant for Mr. Correia’s Metacom Avenue home, where they found a black pellet gun matching the description the rape victim provided. Officers then filed for an arrest warrant and learned Mr. Correia works in Providence. That city’s police placed him in custody without incident.

Mr. Correia is no stranger to the court system. He has a lengthy criminal history dating back to a 2001 arrest for driving with a suspended license. He has also faced charges of felony possession of a controlled substance, driving with a controlled substance, robbery and sexual assault.
