Bristol Police: Child driver, peeping Tom, dump smells like trash

The Bristol Police Department responded to the following calls between May 29 and June 4:

Monday, May 29

A fox was reportedly spotted in the area of Woodlawn Avenue just before 3 p.m. There was no police action needed.

Police dispersed a group of juveniles riding dirt bikes on Narrows Road just before 5 p.m.

Tuesday, May 30

Animal control responded to several complaints, including one involving a snapping turtle on Broadcommon Road around 9 a.m. There were also several roadkill reports throughout the day.

A resident on Metacom Avenue reported a disturbance in a farm area behind her home around 9:30 a.m. Police investigated, finding a father and daughter arguing.

A resident reported a possible “peeping tom” at High and Franklin streets. A man was reportedly peering into a home’s window around 2:30 p.m. There was no issue. The man was looking into a house that is for sale.

Wednesday, May 31

Police removed an unwanted person from Mt. Hope High School at 12:30 p.m. There was no arrest made.

Police helped remove a disorderly woman from the Dunkin’ Donuts on Metacom Avenue around 4:30 p.m.

Police helped remove an unwanted family member from a home on Claremont Avenue around 8 p.m.

A resident on Mason Avenue filed a complaint with police regarding a verbal assault. There was no arrests reported.

Thursday, June 1

A hanging plant was reportedly stolen from the front of a home on Mt. Hope Avenue.

Police issued citations to two unregistered boat trailers, violations of town ordinances.

Reports of a domestic disturbance on Jenny Lane at 3 p.m. turned out to be verbal only.

A resident on Catherine Street reported a group pf people “screaming and yelling” on Catherine Street around 10:30 p.m. The complaint was unfounded.

Friday, June 2

A resident on Harrison Street called police at 5:30 a.m. to complain about a fellow fisherman having no fishing license. The offending angler was gone when police arrived.

A man was reportedly walking in the middle of the road at Bay View Avenue and George Street. There was no police action needed.

A resident on Mt. Hope Avenue called police to report her neighbor was blowing leaves into her yard at 12:30 p.m. It was actually a landscaper clearing leaves into the road.

Bristol Police assisted their Portsmouth counterparts with reports of a bridge jumper around 9:30 p.m. One was brought to Rhode Island Hospital.

Saturday, June 3

A resident on Oliver Street reported spotting multiple raccoons in the yard at 12:30 p.m. Raccoons are ordinarily nocturnal animals.

A man was reportedly laying on the ground on Wood Street just before 4 p.m. Officers moved him along.

A caller reported a strong smell of garbage coming from the Bristol Transfer Station on Minturn Farm Road, where garbage is dumped.

Sunday, June 4

Police responded to noise complaints on Franklin Street just before 3 a.m. and on Hope Street at 4:30 a.m. Neither required police action.

A woman on Bradford Street called 911 requesting police and rescue at 9:20 a.m., then hung up. Officers investigated around High and Bradford, finding no need for rescue service.

A child was reportedly sitting on an adult’s lap, driving a Hummer SUV at Annawamscutt and Charlotte drives around 1:30 p.m. The car was gone when police arrived.

A resident on Bay View Avenue complained of fireworks being lit off just before 9 p.m. All was quiet when police arrived.
