Bristol Police: Mt. Hope assault, house parties, 'loud bang' and more

The Bristol Police Department responded to the following calls between Oct. 24 and Oct. 30:

Monday, Oct. 24

Officers assisted with a car fire on Annawamscutt Drive around 11 a.m. A white GMC truck was fully engulfed in flames, which caused damage to a red Ford car parked near it. There were no reports of injuries.

A caller reported a dark BMW was was parked on Thames Street and left running for several hours. Police contacted the owner; there was no problem.

Tuesday, Oct. 25

A caller complained of noise coming from a plastics factory on Metacom Avenue at 5 a.m. Exhaust fans were reportedly turning on on the outside of the factory. Given that the building is ion a commercial zone, there was no violation.

Police took a statement from personnel at Jacky’s Galaxie, who claim a contractor was paid to do work that was never performed.

A wallet was reportedly stolen at the Stop & Shop on Metacom Avenue. Police filed a report.

Sewage was reportedly backing up into a home on Waterman Street around 6:20 p.m. Police referred the caller to the town sewer department.

Wednesday, Oct. 26

A tree limb fell on the back windshield of a car on Union Street.

A caller reported leaving his car parked at the Robin Rug parking lot on Thames Street for two weeks, only to return and find it missing. There turned out to be no problem. The driver called back to report he found the car. He had actually left it in the Church Street Dock lot.

An injured deer was spotted by the side of the road at Ferry Road and Sidney Street around 11 p.m. The state Department of Environmental Management took possession of the animal.

Thursday, Oct. 27

A man on Bay View Avenue was reportedly rummaging through trash cans on the street just after midnight. Police dispersed the man.

Residents around Fesser Avenue lost power for a short time around 10:30 a.m. after neighbors heard “a loud bang” come from a telephone poll on the street. A squirrel had caused the explosion. National Grid responded.

Another sewer backup was reported at a home on Hope Street around 8 p.m. the sewer department was advised.

Friday, Oct. 28

A woman on Bradford Street called to report her former boyfriend was outside her home repeatedly ringing her doorbell. Officers made contact with the man and requested rescue for an evaluation.

A juvenile was charged with simple assault and disorderly conduct after police were called to Mt. Hope High School just after 8 a.m.

A resident on Bourne Street called police after witnessing a man and woman arguing just before 11 a.m. There was nothing showing when police arrived.

A tree fell onto a house on Gibson Road around 3:30 p.m. The tree fell from town property, according to the caller.

A suspicious person was reportedly knocking on the door of a home on Peckham Place just before 4 p.m. There was no police action needed.

Police were called to Mt. Hope High School around 8:30 p.m. after a caller complained his cell phone was stolen. It turned out to be a misunderstanding. The phone had been misplaced.

Saturday, Oct. 29

Police responded to reports of an argument between a man and a woman on Sowams Drive at 2:20 a.m. Officers filed a report. There was no arrest made.

A woman was reportedly lying on the ground on High Street at 8 a.m. She was picked up by a friend before police arrived.

A man wearing jeans and a winter coat was reportedly lying on the ground on Metacom Avenue just after 4 p.m. Rescue personnel was called to treat the intoxicated man.

Police responded to a house party complaint on Bay View Avenue at 9 p.m. The partiers were advised to keep it down.

A resident near the Almeida Court Apartments, used as dorms for Roger Williams University students, called police to complain of a loud group of people hanging out outside around 10:30 p.m. The group was just waiting for the RWU shuttle.

Sunday, Oct. 30

Officers responded to another house party complaint, this one on Monterey Road just after midnight. Police filed a report but issued no violation.

Another noise complaint brought police to Woodlawn Avenue at 1:40 a.m. The revelers were advised to keep it down.

A car was reportedly taken without consent from a home on Clipper Way. When it was returned, the car was having mechanical issues. Police filed a report.

A man called from Hope Street and Hillside Road to report a suspicious woman had been following him since the bike path in Warren. A report was filed.
