Bristol Police: Sex solicitation, deer attack, frivolous police calls

The Bristol Police Department responded to the following calls between Oct. 17 and Oct. 23:

Monday, Oct. 17

Dogs running free kept animal control officers busy Monday morning on St. Elizabeth Street, Roma Street and Metacom Avenue.

A juvenile was reportedly throwing tennis balls at passing cars at Wood and Richmond streets at 3:30 p.m. The juvenile was gone when police arrived.

Police assisted with a missing child who had run away on his bike after an argument with his father. The boy returned home an hour after police started looking.

Something was thrown at a car at Fatima Drive and Metacom Avenue just before 9 p.m. Police filed a report but made no arrest. Reports did not specify what had been thrown from the passing car.

A resident on High Street called to complain of noise from an upstairs neighbor at 11 p.m. The neighbors were just moving into the apartment, and agreed to stop moving for the night.

Tuesday, Oct. 18

Police served a protection order from the Swansea Police Department after receiving reports from fishermen of a car driving up a dirt path into the woods at Narrows Point. Officers tracked the driver down around 1:30 a.m., learning of the protection order.

A car was reportedly stolen from Alan Drive sometime over night. The owner has reason to believe the car may be in Warren. That town’s police were notified.

Several political signs have been reportedly stolen from homes throughout the town. Election Day is less than two weeks away.

Police helped save an injured bird and bring it to the wildlife rehab center.

A baby was reportedly left in a car for about 15 minutes on Metacom Avenue just before 4 p.m. There turned out to be no issues, as the baby’s grandmother was on the scene.

Wednesday, Oct. 19

A man was reportedly riding his bicycle on the wrong side of the road on Hope Street at midnight. Bicycle riders are subject to the same traffic laws as drivers.

A dog reportedly attacked a deer in a backyard on Monterey Road. Police notified the state DEM, which euthanized the deer.

A resident on Sousa Street called police to complain of harassment. Reports indicate the “complainant had concerns with a boat and trailer parked across from the residence.” There was no police action needed.

Thursday, Oct. 20

A man in a red shirt and blue pants reportedly offered money for sex to a person at State and Wood streets just after 10 a.m. Police filed a report, but made no arrest.

A resident called police after seeing a woman “sleeping” near the tennis courts on Town Common just before 11 a.m. The woman was not sleeping; she was laying in the grass reading on her cell phone.

A resident on Chilton Street called to report receiving a suspicious check in the mail. The “check” was an advertisement.

Friday, Oct. 21

Police responded to several animal complaints, including helping with an injured cat that was taken to the animal ER, a snapping turtle on Wood Street, a dead raccoon on Magnolia Street and a loose dog on Thompson Avenue.

A man wearing blue jeans and a blue wind-breaker was reportedly walking through badk yards on Highview Avenue around 6 p.m. There was no problem. The man, who lives in the area, was just out for a walk.

A resident on Hope Street reported someone tampering with the front door around 10:30 p.m., then walking to the back of the home. It turned out to be no problem; just someone locked out of the house.

Saturday, Oct. 22

A driver at Metacom Avenue and Annawamscutt Drive called police at 2:30 a.m. to report a truck had been following him since Swansea, Mass. Police investigated, learning the driver of the truck mistakenly thought he knew the other driver.

Sewage was reportedly backing up into a home on Metacom Avenue. The town Sewer Department was notified.

A large hole reportedly opened on on Valley Drive, according to a caller around 2:15 p.m. The town Department of Public Works was notified.

Police responded to another unfounded nuisance complaint on Sousa Street, this time just after 10 p.m. The street is the site of frequent neighbor complaints, most of which require no police action.

Sunday, Oct. 23

A tree limb fell on a car on Constitution Street just after 8 a.m. The car’s owner was out of town. Officers contacted him and filed the report.

A possibly sick raccoon was spotted going into a storm drain on Fatima Drive at 11:30 a.m. When the nocturnal creatures are seen during daylight hours, that is sometimes a sign of rabies.

Police spent time responding to another unfounded nuisance complain on Sousa Street, again around 10 p.m.
