Bristol Police: Sleeping shopper, 'suspicious' characters

The Bristol Police responded to the following calls between Feb. 13 and Feb. 19:

Monday, Feb. 13

A man called police to file a report after he fell in the parking lot at St. Elizabeth’s Church around 7:30 a.m.

A car door caught in a strong wind gust flew open and struck another car in the parking lot of the Dollar Tree on Gooding Avenue.

A resident on Burnside Street called police after hearing banging from the pipes in the basement at 11 p.m. There was no issue.

Tuesday, Feb. 14

A “suspicious” man was walking on Metacom Avenue at 12:30 a.m. There was no issue; he was walking to work at Stop & Shop.

An accident at Hope and Franklin streets just before 8 a.m. sent one driver to Charlton Hospital with undisclosed injuries.

Another accident took place around the same time just up the street at Franklin and High streets.

Police responded to reports of a fight at Mt. Hope High School at 11:30 a.m., which turned out to be just a verbal argument.

A car was reportedly dumping trash at Bradford Street and Murphy Avenue just before noon, in violation of a town ordinance. Officers could not find the car.

A reportedly suspicious man was walking at State and Hope streets just before 7 p.m. wearing jeans, a hoodie and a green jacket, and carrying a cane. He was gone when officers arrived. There was no report on why the caller found the man suspicious.

Wednesday, Feb. 15

A man was found sleeping in the bathroom in the Walgreens Pharmacy on Metacom Avenue jut before 6 p.m. He was found to be intoxicated and brought to Rhode Island Hospital.

Friday, Feb. 17

A woman that called 911 was heard screaming right before the call disconnected. The only reason she was calling 911 was because she was locked outside of her house.

There was reports of a person screaming at Poppasquash Road and Hope street. Officers were unable to find the person.

A resident complained of loud noise on Hope Street around 10:30 p.m. The noise was coming from workers at Citizens Bank, who were advised to stop for the night.

Saturday, Feb. 18

Random neighbor advised the police about a loud party on Anthony Avenue. When the police arrived they noticed it was not a loud party, just people talking outside.

Sunday, Feb. 19

A black car hit a sign and drove over a neighbor’s lawn. The car was last seen heading toward Mt. Hope Avenue. The car was gone when the police arrived.

Police responded to a large group of teenagers arguing on Town Common at about 7:30 p.m. Feb. 19.
