Bristol Police: Stolen packages, sleep-deprived driver

The Bristol Police Department responded to the following calls between Dec. 26 and Jan. 2:

Monday, Dec. 26

A bureau was reportedly on the sidewalk on Metacom Avenue in violation of a town ordinance. The owner was advised to move the bureau.

A caller reported a possibly drunk driver was driving from Westport, Mass. to Bristol at 9 p.m. Portsmouth and Bristol Police pulled the driver over on the Mt. Hope Bridge, finding the driver was not intoxicated.

Tuesday, Dec. 27

A resident on Wood Street called police at 7:30 a.m. because a car had been parked across the street for a couple hours. There was no problem.

A 17-year-old boy called 911 reporting a 17-year-old girl was hitting him. The couple was reportedly fighting on State Street just before 1 p.m. Police filed a report, but no arrest was reported.

Cash and gift cards was reportedly stolen from the purse in a house on Hamlet Drive just after 2 p.m.

Money was reportedly stolen from a wallet at Stop & Shop on Metacom Avenue around 3 p.m.

A package was reportedly stolen from a porch on Wood Street. The theft was reported at 6 p.m.

Wednesday, Dec. 28

Police responded to an accident with injuries at Metacom and Woodlawn avenues. One involved was taken to Rhode Island Hospital; another to St. Ann’s Hospital in Fall River, Mass., with unspecified injuries. One driver was issued a court summons for driving with an expired license.

Thursday, Dec. 29

A resident on Violet Court called to report a strange car in his neighbor’s driveway just before 3 p.m. There was no problem; the residents’ son was checking on the house.

Police issued a town ordinance violation for an unregistered car parked in a driveway on Sowams Drive just after 3 p.m. Earlier Friday, officers investigated a similar violation on Chestnut Street. The driver is a car dealer who did not have the dealer plates on the car. Officers advised him all cars must have a license plate.

Friday, Dec. 30

A caller reported a driver on North Farm Drive who she believes should not be driving due to sleep deprivation. The car was gone when officers arrived.

A caller reported smelling smoke and burnt plastic coming from a bar on Thames Street. A recycling bin had caught on fire.
