Color it a success

When Greenwood School PTO president Nicole Lautieri and other PTO officers considered how to raise funds for school activities, they knew they wanted to get away from the raffle tickets, bake sales and string of events they had done in prior years. They were looking for something that would catch the imagination of students and their parents, putting the community together. They found it in a color-a-thon, which was hosted by a company that provided the setup and the supplies. The PTO had the manpower, and the two combined made for a colorful explosion, when all was done about $6,500 for the PTO to do its work. On average, each student raised $85 in pledges for the walk/run around the school campus, where at each of four corners they encountered PTO volunteers spraying them with food dye. The kids wore white t-shirts that registered the “hits,” although it wasn’t long before kids were colorfully dusted from hair to toes.
