Highlights of the decisions made, and items discussed, at the Johnston Town Council Meeting on Tuesday, October 10. Councilman David J. Santilli and Councilman Robert J. Civetti were not in attendance.

Licenses

A business operating license for phone calls only was granted to Water’s Edge Investor Relations Consulting Group located at 55 Shore Drive was approved.

RI Audio, LLC, located at 166 Putnam Pike, was approved for a business operating license for the sale and installation of auto radios and equipment.

An entertainment license was granted to Brewed Awakenings, Inc., located at 1395 Atwood Avenue.

Calos Kitchen, LLC, at 1428 Hartford Avenue and serves lunch and dinner, was granted a restaurant license, which accommodates holiday sales.

New tobacco licenses were approved for Nona’s at 595 Killingly Street, Shell at 1396 Hartford Avenue, Seasons Corner Market at 1680 Hartford Avenue and 525 Killingly Street, and Rite Aid at 1459 Atwood Avenue.

JB Landscape Design and Snow Removal located at 35 Bishop Hill Road was granted a business operating license for phone calls only.

Liquor Licensing Commission

Brewed Awakenings, Inc., located at 1395 Atwood Avenue, was granted a full liquor license.

Constituent requests

District 1 Councilman Richard DelFino III request a traffic study at Water, Deluca, and Genoa Streets for possible stop signs. He requested enforcement of the no through trucking on Simmonsville Avenue, as new signs were recently approved for the area, along with statistics to be provided during the next council meeting. DelFino also requested speed enforcement details for Simmonsville Avenue, Rockcrest Lane, and Peck Hill Road.

Councilman Robert Russo addressed concerns about trash being left out after pickup along with an inquiry about brush cutting in the district.

On behalf of Councilman Robert Civetti, Council President Anthony Verardo asked that a study be done on Memorial Drive regarding speeding and a possible speed bump being added between Engineers Field and Mazzulla Field. President Verardo asked that a three way stop sign be added at Morgan Avenue and Downing Drive following a recent traffic study.

New business

A resolution awarding a bid to Cardi Corporation and authorizing the mayor to enter into an agreement for the reconstruction of the tennis courts at Johnston Memorial Park, at a cost of about $53,000, was approved.

A petition from National Grid and Verizon for the placement of six new pole locations on Boulder Drive was approved.

A resolution awarding the bid and authorizing the mayor to enter into an agreement for property security and emergency services was granted.

The council approved a resolution authorizing the extension of an agreement between Unifirst Corporation and the Town of Johnston for the rental and maintenance of uniforms for town employees.
