Did your Barrington street make the list?

A smoother ride is coming to certain parts of Barrington.

At its recent meeting, the town council approved a bid from J.H. Lynch for $1.516 million to repave a number of roads in Barrington. The roads include Anoka Avenue, Broadview Drive, Half Mile Road and Elm Lane. In totally, 19 roads will be repaved in the project.

"Work shall include the replacement of asphalt curbing, i.e., Cape Cod style berm, along sidewalk edges as well as areas of curbing along grassed areas," stated a memo from Barrington Town Manager Jim Cunha.

Also included in the road resurfacing work will be some new construction: A new bus and emergency vehicle access road will be built at the high school. The road will run from Federal Road just east of the varsity softball field, to the edge of the Barrington High School parking lot.

"This will allow for better circulation of the buses," said town council president Michael Carroll.

Officials have had concerns about the traffic congestion in the large high school parking lot, especially during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. 

The new access road — it will cost $121,878.50 — will offer a dedicated lane for the buses as well as a more direct route for emergency vehicles. The school department will reimburse the town for the cost of the new access road.
