Hawks swim to another DI championship

The Bishop Hendricken swim team continued its run of dominance this season, winning the Division I Division Championship last week at Roger Williams.

The Hawks will now shift their focus toward this weekend’s state championship at Brown, where they will enter as the heavy favorite to take the top prize once again. 

Here is a look at some of the local results from the Division Championships:

BOYS

Hendricken’s relay team of Ryan McPherson, Grant Dator, Aidan Blanchette and CJ Sheldon won the 200 medley, while Nick Andrews won the 200 free and 500 free. 

Sheldon later won the 50 free and 100 free, while Blanchette, Sheldon, John Walden and Nick Andrews won the 200 free relay. 

John Walden, Tim Andrews, Nick Andrews and Ryan McPherson placed second in the 400 free relay.

John Walden placed third in the 200 free for the Hawks, while Dator took third in the 200 IM and the breaststroke. Matt Walden later finished third in the 500 free.

Blanchette took fourth in the 50 free as well as fourth in the butterfly, while McPherson placed fourth in the backstroke. 

Alex Walsh placed fifth in the 200 free for Hendricken as well as the backstroke, while Tim Andrews took fifth in the 200 IM. Tim Andrews also placed fifth in the butterfly. John Walden took fifth in the 100 free and Kevin Sawyer fifth in the 500 free.

GIRLS

Abby Ignagni took second in the butterfly for Toll Gate

Ignagni took third in the 200 IM for Toll Gate while Brooke Maynard took third in the breaststroke. 

Oce Lowe later placed fourth in the 500 free for Toll Gate

Madeline Hopkins took fifth in the 200 IM for Pilgrim, while the Pats’ relay team of Kaitlyn Waring, Zoe Whitman, Kaylee Collins and Emma Spolidoro took fifth in the 200 free.

Toll Gate’s relay team of Lowe, Maynard, Ignagni and Lauren Fracassa took fifth in the 200 medley.

Here is a look at some other local results from the event:

BOYS

Carpenter took first place in the 50 free and 100 free for Cranston East. East’s relay team of Procaccini, Carpenter, Tyler Kahabev and Ivan Abreu won the 200 free. Alfred Su later won the backstroke.

East’s relay team of Su, Procaccini, Carpenter and Oscar Quester finished second in the 200 medley, while Procaccini took second in the 100 butterfly.

Kahabev took third in the 200 free as well as the 100 free while Procaccini took third in the 50 free.

Patrick Maguire finished fourth in the 200 IM, while Su, Abreu, Kahabev and Carlos Ramirez took fourth in the 400 free. Quester later placed fifth in the 200 IM, while Su took fifth in the butterfly and Maguire fifth in the backstroke. 

David Marcello won the 100 breaststroke for West and finished second in the 200 IM, while Gavin Kiernan took second in the butterfly.

Cranston West’s relay team of Zachary Vanderhoff, Kiernan, Marcello and Logan D’Arezzo placed third in the 400 free, while Kiernan placed fourth in the 200 free and D’Arezzo took fourth in the 500 free.

D’Arezzo took fifth in the 200 free for West, while teammate Vanderhoff took fifth in the 100 free. West’s relay team of Alexander Phok, Ethan Wu, Edison Wu and D’Arezzo finished fifth in the 200 free.

GIRLS

East’s Fisher won the 100 free, while East’s relay team of Nathalie Benitez, Ruby Houle, Fisher and Lily Maguire won the 200 free.

Baxter placed second in the 50 free while Maguire took second in the backstroke. 

Fisher took third in the 200 free, while Maguire placed third in the IM and Benitez third in the 500 free. East’s relay team of Fisher, Maguire, Baxter and Benitez placed third in the 400 free.

East’s relay team of Benitez, Enid Corcoran, Baxter and Julia Monsalve placed fourth in the 200 medley, while Ruby Houle took fourth in the 100 free. Benitez also finished fourth in the backstroke. 

Baxter went on to take fifth in the butterfly while Wignall took fifth in the 500 free and Corcoran fifth in the breaststroke. 

Wignall took fifth in the 200 free, while West’s Serena Leung placed fourth in the 50 free. Leung later took fifth in the 100 free.
