Eagles punch ticket to hockey finals

Barrington wins deciding game, 4-0

The Barrington High School boys' hockey team is headed to the Division II finals.

The Eagles defeated Ponaganset 4-0 in the deciding game of the semifinal series on Monday night. Barrington had captured the first game 5-2 and dropped the second 4-2.

In the clincher, Barrington's Josh Roy scored two goals in the first period. Jonny Fay and Dominic Robidoux had assists on the goals. TJ Hall extended Barrington's lead to 3-0 with a goal in the second period and Kyle Shuman rounded out the scoring. Josh Cabral made 24 saves in the victory.

Barrington opened the series with a 5-2 win, paced by TJ Hall's two goals — one on an empty-netter in the third period. Shuman, Roy and Michael Grieve also scored goals, and Cabral made 24 saves. 

Ponaganset's lone win came in the second game of the series. Ponaganset scored three first period goals to take a commanding lead and held on the for the 4-2 win. Shuman and Hall both scored goals.

Barrington will play in the finals against the Rogers/Middletown/Rocky Hill co-op team. The first game of the series is Thursday night, March 16, at Brown's Meehan Auditorium. The puck drops at 6 p.m.

Barrington and Rogers/Middletown/Rocky Hill finished the regular season with identical 14-4 records. The RMR team has not dropped a single game in the playoffs — they defeated North Kingstown in two straight in the quarterfinals and swept Toll Gate in the semis.

Barrington and RMR met twice during the regular season. RMR won the first game, 2-1, in overtime while the Eagles won the second showdown 5-3.
