East senior class raises money for Justin's wish

Cranston East’s senior class has lots to celebrate this year besides graduation. They are the first class in school history to have a completely free prom. They have also raised money to contribute to a fellow Cranston student’s Make A Wish.

On Thursday, March 9, the class held its annual dodgeball tournament. According to Class President Nicole DeAngelis, they raised over $650 to help Justin’s Wish. (Justin is a sophomore student at Cranston West.)

“All of our events are fully funded, all of our fundraising efforts are now going to West. I wish they were to see how hard we are working for them,” said Emma McDermott, class secretary.

With 15 signed up to play, it was a double-elimination process, and at the end the final two teams squaring off were Teams 5 and 8.

Going into the finals Team 8 was undefeated, and Team 5 needed a win to stay in the match.

The first game went to Team 5 in an upset of a 1-on-1 player matchup.

The second game was emotionally charged and fast-paced, balls whizzing through the air. Team 5 played hard, but in the end, Team 8 took home the win.

Class Advisor Andrea DiCicco was proud of the event.

“This is a very hard-working class. They set goals for themselves as far as fundraising, and exceeded all of them. Knowing they are working so hard to help a fellow Cranston student makes me so proud. I am also grateful to PE teacher Mike Walsh for giving of his time and helping us out as a referee,” she said.
