Elderly woman struck by car in Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH — An 83-year-old female pedestrian suffered “multiple traumatic injuries” after she was struck by a car early Friday evening.

The accident took place on East Main Road near Quaker Hill Lane, according to the Portsmouth Fire Department, which received 911 calls about the incident at 5:49 p.m.

“An ambulance and fire engine arrived within minutes to find an 83-year-old female down with multiple traumatic injuries,” said Deputy Fire Chief Michael P. O’Brien in a prepared statement. “The patient was conscious at the scene but her injuries are considered life-threatening.  

“The patient (was) transported from the scene by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital. Crews were clear of the scene after 30 minutes.”

The woman’s condition is not known at this time.
