Scores of Bristol seniors filed into the Bristol Housing Authority Community Room Friday for the annual Senior Awareness Day, co-sponsored by the Bristol Housing Authority and Bristol Senior Center

“This was the 6th year of our event, and we had over 25 agencies,” said Bristol Senior Center Executive Director Maria Ursini. “Most have been here with us for all six years. All of the agencies that we invite work in our community to help assist individuals over the age of 55. Bank Newport has been one of our sponsors for the past years along with Tony Teixeira in providing lunch to all. We at the senior center have been lucky to have a wonderful neighbor, the Bristol Housing Authority. Executive Director Candy Pansa and her maintenance crew are absolutely wonderful. The partnership has been great.”

Ms. Ursini said this year’s turnout was as good as it has ever been.

“The turn out again this year was great,” she said. “Even the weather didn’t keep people away. Flu shots were provided by CVS, and blood pressures were also provided.

“We would like to welcome residents to come and visit our center,” Ms. Ursini added. “We are a resource center and assist in many social services. We would also like to remind all that Medicare Open Enrollment is from Oct. 15 to Dec. 7. Please make your appointments.”

As in past years, breakfast and lunch was provided, as well as the various vendors who offered seniors valuable information on medical health insurance, social security, assisted living, affordable senior housing, and safety and security initiatives.
