Ferri basketball teams make playoffs

Johnston Sun Rise ·

The Ferri Middle School girls’ and boys’ basketball teams recently honored their eighth-grade players, holding special pre-game ceremonies at their respective final regular-season home games.

The Ferri girls, coached by Greta Lalli and Gianna Mazzulla, once again qualified for the playoffs, earning the final playoff spot in the Central Division by defeating Riverside, 34-32, in a special play-in game. In the opening round of the RIPCOA State Tournament, Ferri held the lead into the second half, before eventually falling to Northern Division runner-up Gallagher Middle School, 29-25, last Friday at Smithfield.

Meanwhile, the Ferri boys, coached by Brian Iafrate, finished second to Feinstein Middle School in the Central Division with a 10-2 record and received a first-round bye in the state tournament. They were scheduled to host Samuel Slater Junior High School of Pawtucket on Tuesday afternoon.
