Flood watch, gale warning issued ahead of Monday storm

Heavy rain, winds expected in the area through Monday night

A gale warning and flood watch has been issued for the region as a nor'easter bears down on Rhode Island Monday.

Rain is expected to begin late Monday morning, building through the day and becoming heavy at times throughout the night. As much as two to three inches of rain could fall across the East Bay, prompting flood concerns around the region. Some sleet is also possible with the storm.

The rain will be accompanied by strong winds Monday afternoon through the evening, strengthening through the night. Sustained winds of 22-30 mph are expected, with gusts approaching 50 mph, the National Weather Service reports.

The rain will continue into the early morning hours Tuesday, tapering off before the morning commute. Temperatures will remain in the high 30s Monday, rising into the low- to mid-40s on Tuesday.
