Food trucks, fun planned for high school Movie Night

Johnston Sun Rise ·

The five-member Johnston High School Student Council will add another chapter to its ambitious 2017-18 schedule tonight – weather permitting.

Sometime around 7 o’clock, the JHS Student Council will begin showing a highly-acclaimed Walt Disney produced and directed children’s movie inside Mayor Joseph M. Polisena Stadium that’s located next to the high school.

But there’s more to tonight’s special presentation, as the current JHS Student Council and Faculty Advisor Greg Russo have lined up those now popular food trucks to be on hand prior to the movie.

“The kids are excited … I’m excited,” Russo, who is known for his on-going innovative programs and projects that have benefited numerous Student Councils through the years, said. “Of course, like everyone – I’m hoping for great weather.”

Meanwhile, Lauren Civetti – the recently elected and first-ever JHS Panther to hold the post as Student Council Public Relational Officer – said tonight’s movie “is a real popular film for children that the whole family will enjoy.”

Admission for the movie is $12 for adults and $6 for children. Tickets will be on sale at the gate.

Tonight’s unique offering will actually begin around 5:30 or so when food trucks pull into the parking lot and set up shop outside Polisena Stadium.

Civetti recently announced that Friskie Fries, which has a small eat-in restaurant at 751 Hartford Ave., would be on hand. Another food vendor known as Championship Melt, which specializes in grilled cheese sandwiches, will be alongside Friskie Fries.

If tonight’s scheduled Movie Night is postponed because of weather, it will be held this Saturday at the same time and place.

Russo, meanwhile, announced that the Student Council is still searching far and wide to invite all 49 former Homecoming Queens to the always-colorful celebration that will be held on Saturday, Oct. 21.

“If you know someone who was a Homecoming Queen, please contact us as soon as possible,” Russo said. “The Student Council is really working hard to make this 50th Anniversary of Homecoming special.”

Russo said people can call him at (401) 225-9338 or email at grusso@johnstonschools.org.

He also announced that those with any information about a former Homecoming Queen can email Emily Raposo at 2019ereaposo@jonstonschools.org.
