JHS Students will take the “Plunge”

Johnston Sun Rise ·

It’s that time of year again when students at Johnston High School are in the process of preparing for the 2018 Rhode Island Special Olympics Penguin Plunge. Students are welcome to join the Student Council and come along to celebrate the New Year by participating in a great cause.

This is a wonderful event to start the New Year, participation in this event provides funding to support over 3,500 athletes who participate in SORI’s year-round program and training in 21 sports.

Students should receive a Penguin Plunge form from Student Council members and give a donation of $25 or more. Students that donate more than $25 will be able to receive a Special Olympics gift, such as a T-shirt or long-sleeve shirt.

People who are going should expect really cold weather, prepare to stay warm would be the main goal. All plungers must wear shoes to the plunge and you’ll have to walk out on the ice and sometimes wait a moment for others to jump. Bring dry replacement clothes for after the plunge, it’s nice to have some warm and dry cloths for the journey home.
