Jose Tavares Labao, 96, of Bristol

Jose Tavares Labao, 96, of Franklin Street, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017, at Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center. He was the husband of Sophia (Aguiar) Labao.   

Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Augusto and Maria dosAnjos (Calisto) Labao. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Mary Lou Labao of Bristol, Arthur Labao and his wife Gemma of Middletown, Susan Labao of Tempe, Ariz., and Paula Labao of Fall River, Mass. He was the grandfather of Kristina Labao; great-grandfather of Sophia Dias, and brother of the late Joseph Labao, Gilberta Cabral and Maria Silva.

Mr. Labao attended school in Portugal and worked as a landscaper and machinist before retiring. 

His funeral services were held Thursday, Nov. 2, from the George Lima Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by the Rev. Luis Garcia Dutra at St. Elizabeth’s Church. Liturgical readings were by Theresa Amaral, and the Prayer of the Faithful was read by Kevin Costa. The offertory gifts were presented by Paula Labao and Kristina Labao. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were John Browning, Kevin Costa, Joe Franco, Nelson Amaral, Jerry Burke and John Cabral.
