Josue S. Canario, 83, of Warren, died Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at home. He was the husband of the late Maria F. (Costa) Canario.

Mr. Canario was born in Faial, the Azores, Portugal, a son of the late Josue S and Aldina (Silva) Canario. He was a laborer for Fulflex Manufacturing for more than 23 years.

He had lived in Warren resident since coming from Portugal in 1962, and attended Mass at St. Elizabeth Church in Bristol.

Mr. Canario was a soccer player for Bristol Sports for many years and was a lifetime member of the Portugal Sports team, where he played for several teams and was a very well-known soccer player.

He also had worked on a cruise ship in Portugal for several years.

Mr. Canario leaves his sons Josue D. and his wife Jennifer Canario of Bristol, and Mario J. Canario of Warren. He was the brother of Manuel Canario of Barrington. He was the grandfather of Jocelyn, Janelle, Joshua, Alexa and Lucas, and also leaves many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Aldina DaSilva and Germana Neves, and also several late stepbrothers and stepsisters.

His funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday, March 13 from Smith Funeral and Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road ,Warren, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. in St. Elizabeth Church, 577 Wood St., Bristol. Burial will follow in St. Mary of the Bay Cemetery, Vernon Street. Warren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours are Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m.
