Man exposes himself, chases victim through Westport woods

Westport Police are seeking an arrest warrant for 53-year-old Philip Lafond who they say exposed himself and demanded sex on a Westport walking trail last week.

Police were called Wednesday to the Brookside Conservation Trail located at 1016 American Legion Highway for a report of a man who exposed himself to another man, and demanded sex. The victim ran from the area and notified police.

“The victim told police the suspect followed him throughout the wooded path while exposed when the victim ran from the area,” said Westport Police detective Jeff Majewski.

The suspect’s vehicle was described as an older model Jeep Cherokee with Massachusetts registration 3ZB645 which is registered to Mr. Lafond. The victim described his assailant as a man in his fifties with greyish-white lengthy facial hair and tattoos covering most of his body. The suspect’s last known address was in Acushnet The victim subsequently identified Mr. Lafond as the assailant.

“It may be an isolated incident at this time but we are looking for anyone with information,” Det. Majewski said. The suspect is approximately 5’11” with tattoos on his neck and legs.

“Southeastern Massachusetts has many beautiful walking paths but those areas are secluded,” the detective said. “Police are asking that people take normal precautions when walking alone. Be sure to bring a cell phone and items to warn someone away such as a simple whistle or personal defense spray”. Personal defense spray such as Mace is available to anyone 18 years of age or older and is sold in many locations.
