Michael Joseph Gorman, 88, Tiverton

Michael Joseph Gorman, 88, died June 9, 2017, surrounded by his loving family at St. Anne’s Hospital.  He is survived by his loving wife of almost 64 years, Hazel (Petrin) Gorman, and his four children, Susan H. Canfield and her husband Carl of Little Compton, Michael J. Gorman, Jr. and his wife Brenda of Tiverton,Carrie E. Schwartz of Chepachet, and Brian J. Gorman and his wife Cynthia of Tiverton.

Mike was born in New York City, the son of the late James J. Gorman and Mary Ann (Boyle) Gorman.  A Navy veteran during the Korean conflict he then went on to work at the Fall River Gas Company for 56 years retiring in 2011. 

Mike was a former member of the Naval Reserve, served on the Budget Committee in Tiverton, a lifetime member of the VFW, a regular blood donor and a former member of the Tiverton Lions Club.  In addition he was a Eucharistic Minister with St. Christopher’s Church in Tiverton and would deliver Holy Communion to shut-ins after Mass.   Most every morning he could be found at WOW working out and socializing with friends.

In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Noting was more important to Mike than family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Christopher’s Church, 1554 Main Road, Tiverton, on Saturday, July 1, at 10 a.m., followed by interment at Pocasset Hill Cemetery, Main Road, Tiverton.  Everyone is welcome. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mike’s memory may be made to the Tiverton Lions Club, P. O. Box 148, Tiverton, RI  02878.  Donations will be used to supplement their Scholarship Program.
