National Honor Society turkey drive a learning experience
Throughout the years, Johnston Senior High School’s National Honor Society has contributed a great deal to the community, helping those that are less fortunate.
With this being said, throughout the week of November 13 to 17, members of the National Honor Society visited student homerooms every morning collecting donations for the Turkey Drive.
In addition to this, a dressdown day was hosted by the National Honor Society for teachers and staff who donated to the Turkey Drive as well. This drive helps families that are in need during the holiday season.
The Johnston Senior High School’s National Honor Society values service as a requirement to be inducted into the society and, once again, this drive allowed every single member to do their part in making the community a better place.
With Thanksgiving decorated cans circulating the school held by National Honor Society members, the Turkey Drive collections deemed very successful. At the end of an inspiring week of collecting for this cause, over $800 had been raised for the drive, exceeding the National Honor Society’s expectations greatly.
We were thrilled to witness and be a part of the generosity that is embedded in many of the students at Johnston Senior High School. Students were told that anything could help and donations were given in abundance every single morning. It truly is the little things, like small donations, that count the most because they can turn out to be something extraordinary.
Not only did it ensure help for others, but it gave National Honor Society members a deeper look into reality. Not everyone is as fortunate as we are, something that we need to be reminded of every so often. The result of this realization can be eye opening and heartwarming.
The Johnston Senior High School’s National Honor Society refused to let those less fortunate go without this Thanksgiving. We give thanks to everyone, including the teachers and students, who donated and made this Turkey Drive so successful. There is always something to be thankful for in this life, and we must be thankful for what we have today and everyday.
