New garden at West honors the Lemois

The Cranston Herald ·

On Friday afternoon, as roughly 2,000 middle and high school students and staff filed into the stadium at Cranston High School West for the annual Homecoming pep rally celebration, both falcons and “future falcons,” Dr. Andrew Lemoi and his family were taking a few quiet moments to admire the new memorial garden recently installed in honor of his parents, forever falcons, former principal Ed Lemoi and his wife, Marie.

Last year the infamous rock adjacent to the West track was painted and dedicated in Lemoi’s honor at the pep rally, which took place soon after Lemoi had passed away. CHSW alumni Dr. Lemoi was on hand for the dedication last year, and at West again this year for the unveiling of the new garden. He also spoke at the May Senior Honors Night as the first scholarships were given out to students in his parents’ names.

The garden, and the labor to install it, was donated by one of Lemoi’s former students, Alan Muoio from the Lawn Beauticians and Forest Hills Nursery. All remarked as to the garden’s beauty, and the fact that it has been installed in time for the one year anniversary of Lemoi’s passing last October 4. It also comes as final preparations are underway for the first scholarship dinner event, which will be taking place this weekend, on Sunday, Oct. 14 at the Cranston Country Club in honor of Ed and Marie Lemoi.

“We are already expecting approximately 100 or so people,” said Lemoi. “We will be having dinner, raffles and a silent auction. Some of the people who have said they can’t come but who wished to make a donation, have also already sent in donations.”

All of the proceeds will benefit the Ed and Marie Lemoi Memorial Scholarship Fund. Tickets for the event are just $25 and include the dinner, raffles and silent auction. Checks for individual tickets, donations, or reservations for tables of ten can be made out to Cranston High School West, and cash is accepted as well.
