OLG Super Bowl party has faith in the Patriots

Johnston Sun Rise ·

Two-time New England Patriots Super Bowl Champion Rodney Harrison has a lot in common with people who attended last year’s Our Lady of Grace pigskin party inside Fioretti Hall in Johnston.

The Patriots were getting pummeled by the Falcons in the 2017 Super Bowl and Harrison – who has been an NBC Studio analyst – said: “I was getting harassed by Falcon fans, so it got to a point where it was so bad, I just left. I felt like we were going to lose and were actually going to get blown out.”

So, Harrison wound up going back to the hotel, sitting in the bar watching it along with probably 300 other fans who were all rooting against the Patriots.

Much to Falcon fans chagrin, the Patriots ended up pulling it out and Harrison recently admitted, “I felt terrible about leaving, but at the same point, I was happy the Patriots won.”

The scene was much the same inside OLG’s Fioretti Hall, which was overflowing with some 150 crazed Patriots fans, many of whom also wound up leaving by intermission because Atlanta was sporting a huge lead.

“Oh, ye of little faith!” said Rev. Peter J. Gower, the popular pastor at OLG who initiated the Super Bowl Party three yeas ago this Sunday.

But where does Harrison have a tie with OLG, especially for this Sunday’s 3rd Annual Super Bowl that will begin when doors open at 5 o’clock and people start enjoying a smorgasbord of food all for the one-time cost of just five bucks.

Harrison, you see, has donated a personally autographed football for Sunday’s pigskin party that will be raffled off during the Patriots-Eagles game that will kickoff at 6:30 p.m. in Minnesota.

“We’re thrilled with the donation!” exclaimed Father Gower. “Well be selling tickets prior to kickoff and during the game. As everyone knows, I’m a big Pats fan and I’m really looking forward to Sunday’s game.”

Father Gower then announced, even to the surprise of some staffers at the Roman Catholic parish, “that I’m hoping one person gets lucky and takes home a ticket worth $35,000.”

The OLG pastor said he purchased a package of 60 scratch tickets from the Rhode Island Lottery that says on a promotional poster “Win Patriots Experiential Prizes” for what Father Gower said will only cost $5 per ticket, the winner being worth $35,000.”

The Rodney Harrison autographed football and chance to win a scratch ticket worth money and one of those all-you-can-eat buffets have football fans in-and-around OLG and other locations excited about Sunday’s super party.

Sunday’s super spread will include pizza, sausage, peppers and onions, hot dogs, pasta, chicken wings, calzones, salad, rolls and a cash bar. There could even be some desserts, although none have as yet been announced.

For more information or tickets, people are urged to call OLG at 231-2220.
