Panthers rout Cougars

Johnston Sun Rise ·

The Johnston boys’ soccer team posted its highest goal total of the season on Tuesday evening, overwhelming visiting North Providence en route to a 7-1 victory.

D.J. Anderson sparked the Panthers to the win with a game-high two goals, while also chipping in with an assist for three points. Connor Agnew also stood out on the pitch for Johnston, mirroring Anderson with three points of his own, albeit on one goal and two assists.

However, Anderson and Agnew weren’t the only contributors, as the Panthers’ depth and balance was on display. Abraham Tambah and Henry Alvarez, who are tied for the team lead in points with 13, added a goal and an assist each, and Jarred Lameiro and Jon Souza had one goal apiece.

The Panthers are now 4-3-3 in Division III, sitting in sixth place out of 17 teams, as the program is trying to post a winning record in league play for the first time since the fall of 2005.

Johnston will be looking to keep its momentum rolling when it hosts Blackstone Valley Prep (1-5-1) this evening at 6:30 p.m.
