PORTSMOUTH — Current members of the Portsmouth High School boys’ soccer team got the best of their alumni rivals in a friendly game on the school’s turf field Sunday evening.

The event was organized by PHS player John Stack, who did it for his senior project.

The current team won the game, 6-1, but the final score was not indicative of the quality of play, according to John.

“The alumni team played very well until the final few minutes,” he said.

Kevin Galvin scored the lone goal for the alumni team off of an assist from John Bronson.

For the PHS team, Kenneth Armijo scored twice and Michael Tavarase, Andrew Maiato, Will Swart and Cam McCarthy each added a goal.

“The main objective of the project wasn't winning or losing; it was about building chemistry between current players, alumni, as well as other members of the community,” John said.

“I think I was very successful in bringing everyone together and enjoying the game that we all love.”
