IN THE BATMOBILE: The “police station on wheels” as it has been named with its two holding cells and array of high tech equipment from cameras and breathalyzers to communications was of high interest. The mobile unit is shared by departments and may be reserved for special details such as increased surveillance for driving under the influence on Saint Patrick’s Day or the Super Bowl. National Night Out, celebrated Tuesday at Oakland Beach Commons, has become a Warwick tradition thanks to the efforts of Warwick Police, Target and Warwick City Councilwoman Donna Travis.
Tuesday’s event – the city’s 33rd – included a variety of demonstrations from the use of the Jaws of Life by firefighters to peel apart a car to the Warwick K-9 team. The biggest bang of the night came with a fireworks display ending about 9:30. There was plenty of free food and beverages and as intended, children and families were in abundance. The mission of the celebration is to bring the community and its law enforcement agencies together.
