Pocasset Bay residents rock the fashion runway

There was a fashion show unlike any other at Brookdale Pocasset Bay on Saturday, June 24, as residents modeled their best attire for the benefit of all the facility’s residents.

The fun-filled event was developed by Kimberly Mammay, Pocasset Bay’s Resident Programs Manager, as a way for residents to have fun and socialize in their best formal and informal attire.

“Beauty is ageless. We were really trying to instill in our residents that just because you’re older doesn’t mean that you’re not beautiful,” said Mammay. “We all kind of threw ideas out there and they loved the idea of a fashion show and getting dolled up and wearing things they may not wear all the time.”

Both men and women participated in the event. Each participant chose their own attire from outfits they owned, then walked and rocked the runway before about 75 other residents who had gathered for the event.

A DJ played specialized music as participants walked through the main atrium to the applause of their families and friends. The fashion show was the first of its kind at the center, and both staff and residents hope it becomes a reoccurring event.

Participants included Theresa Coletta, Lucy Kuzirian, Angelina Vinagro, Norma Naylor, Enis Gosselin, Concesa Lambert, 101-year-old Carmela Spicola, Dave Teolis, Ann Manni, Maureen Riccitelli, Bonnie Bailey, 100-year-old Louise Greco, Alfred Papa, Janice Bock, Muriel Morris, Robert Brown, Norma Bert, Robert Difiore, Marie D’Elena and Gloria DiGregorio.
